Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet brevicirra is composed by the Latin prefix brevi-, meaning 'short', and the Latin noun cirra, plural of cirrus and meaning 'curl', 'filament' or 'tendril', and presumably refers to the dorsal and ventral cirri of the species, described as being short: "The dorsal and ventral cirri of the parapodia are in the form of short, conical buds" (Rangarajan, 1964: 123).
