Etymology The name of the genus probably refers to the Greek mythological name Thesmia or Thesmophoros, the ''law-giver'', a surname of Demeter and Persephone, in honour of whom the Thesmophoria were celebrated at Athens in the month of Pyanepsion (from ''Greek Myth Index''). [details]
