Nomenclature Genus "Corallina" is not an accepted name in Phylum Annelida. However, Ellis (1755) included a variety of apparently plant-like animal Phyla under his "Corallina". His grouping related to the structures created, and he was aware they were created by organisms other than 'polypes' (Cnidarian corals). Within Annelida Ellis's use of 'Corallina' related to one instance in sabellid tube worms. He had described a sabellid worm from Malta as Corallina Tubularia Melitensis. This name was placed as a subjective synonym of Sabella spallanzanii by Knight-Jones & Perkins (1998).
