Homonymy Eisig (1887: 835) included the senior name Ancistria Quatrefages, 1866 in the synonymy of his new genus Heteromastus. Eisig apparently did not consider this as unusual. No indication has been found in his monograph that he knew Ancistria Quatrefages, 1866 was junior to Ancistria Erichson, 1845 in Coleoptera. Ancistria Erichson is the largest genus in Passandridae, which are parasitic bark beetles. Hartman catalogue (1959: 438) has no indication that Ancistria is a junior homonym, so the reason for synonymy to Heteromastus is not obvious in the catalogue. However, Chamberlin (1919: 466) points out the homonymy. There is no indication Chamberlin thought his comments were original, and the homonymy had been detected earlier at least once and published (without the matching senior name) by Leiper (1908). Usage of the species name Ancistria minima as valid ceases after Eisig's monograph, but it was in any case junior to Claparede's Capitella filiformis of 1864. [details]
