Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Londoño-Mesa (2003: 756): ''Small Terebellinae without branchiae. Free edge of the upper lip as ventrally oriented tongue-like projection, with smooth margins. Peristomium with lower lip swollen. Eyespots present, in two groups on tentacular membrane (prostomium). Lateral lappets absent. Ventral pads as large and broad inflated structures, beginning on segment 2, becoming conspicuous and smaller after segment 17. First thoracic chaetiger on segment 5, in numbers 90-92. Two types of notochaetae: capillaries, narrowly bilimbate on anterior thoracic chaetigers, and two sizes of capillaries, each with serrated blades. Thoracic and abdominal neurochaetae similar, avicular without posterior filament (manubrium); many series of accessory teeth above MF. First neuropodia on segment 6, in single row until segment 12; thereafter, in double rows, face to face, to the posterior end. Subrostral appendix well developed, as flat, rounded and perpendicular structure that emerges from the tissue surrounding the uncini, directly below main tooth. Nephridial papillae present from segment 4 to 10-11.'' [details]
Etymology The genus is named after Patricia A. Hutchings, Australian polychaetologist, ''for her valuable terebellid studies'' (Londoño-Mesa, 2003: 756). The generic epithet is formed by the surname 'Hutchings', followed by the old Spanish suffix -iella, added to feminine nouns and adjectives as a diminuitive suffix. [details]
