Nomenclature Audouin & Milne Edwards, 1833 characterised Aonis and described Aonis foliosa, and are credited in Hartman Catalogue (1959:375) with authorship of Aonis in Spionidae, but clearly indicate they are applying a name introduced by Savigny (for Nereis caeca (now Nephtys)). Pettibone (1963:91) treated Aonis sensu Audouin & Milne-Edwards as a junior homonym of Savigny’s name, but this is not the case.  [details]
