Editor's comment Probably used in error for the intended 'Oenone' of Lamarck. Risso is aware of both the work of Lamarck and Savigny relating to Oenone-like species (he cites both authors on the previous page), but there is a lapsus in Lamarck in which the spelling Aenone is used instead of the intended Oenone, and Risso may have adopted it. Careless use of variant spellings is not uncommon in the 19th century. In Lamarck Aenone is a nomen nudum (no description), but the name becomes available as a genus name when used by Risso. Taxonomy Quatrefages (1866: 382) placed the genus and species as incertae sedis in Lumbrineridae. Hartman evidently did not see the original in Risso and reports the name combination in her 1959 Catalogues under Lysaretidae as "Risso in Quatrefages" and indeterminable, presumably a decision based on the short description given by Quatrefages.
