Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet tenuicirrata is composed by the prefix tenui, a dative form of the Latin word tenuis, meaning 'thin' or 'slender' and the Latin word cirrata, and seems to refer to the slender and longer dorsal cirri of the species, when compared with Sphaerosyllis hystrix: "Cette espèce se distingue immédiatement de la précédente [Sphaerosyllis hystrix] par ses antennes at ses cirres beaucoup plus longs, moins renflés à la base" (Claparède, 1864: 547). [details]
Habitat Not stated, unknown. [details]
New combination The species was transferred from Sphaerosyllis to Grubea by Fauvel. A new combination was proposed by Musco & Giangrade (2005) after San Martín's transfer of the species belonging to Grubea, Grubeosyllis and Pseudobrania into Salvatoria. [details]
