Etymology Not stated. Female personal name. In ancient history daughter of Astyages and, after the rule of the Medes, the mother of the first Persian king Kyrus I (Cyrus). Homonymy Unavailable name as junior homonym to Mandane Kinberg, 1866, in Spionida. Kinberg had used the same genus name in an earlier published part of his multi-part article. This second usage must be replaced with the next available name, which used to be Acanthodrilus Perrier, 1872, except that Michaelson (1899: 237) moved Mandane litoralis (one of the three original names in Mandane) to his new genus Chilota as its type species. It is unclear what the type species of Mandane was as it would have to be a subsequent designation. [details]
