The species is named after Dr. Heinrich Carl Redeke (b. Amsterdam, 29 August 1873 - d. Hilversum, 10 April 1945), Dutch zoologist and director of the Dutch Zoologisch Station between 1902-1928: "Ik veroorloof mij deze soort te noemen naar Dr. H. С. Redeke, die zooveel heeft bijgedragen tot vermeerdering onzer kennis van de fauna der Nederlandsche wateren" (Augener, 1929: footnote on page 111; translation by the Editor using Google Translator: "I allow myself to call this species after Dr. H. С. Redeke, who has contributed so much to the increase of our knowledge of the fauna of the Dutch waters.").
