Not stated. The name of the genus is composed by the Latin prefix of Greek origin pseudo-, meaning 'fake' or 'false', followed by the name of the genus Syllides Örsted, 1845, and refers presumably to the similarity considered to exist between the two genera, e.g.: "In gewisser Hinsicht der Gattung Syllides gleichend, so in dem Besitze eines vorn glattrandigen Pharynx und eines kurzen Muskelmagens (Augener, 1927: 53).
