Notes  Description: Description: arm length to 12 cm, disc diameter to 10 mm. Disc smooth with microscopic scales and a net-like pattern of dark lines on grey with tiny yellow speckling. Arms pale, banded with thin, dark lines every fifth joint. Arm spines short. In Tortonese (1980) the colour pattern is described as brown lines and sometimes also spots on the dorsal side of the disc forming a very variable pattern. Habitat: lower eulittoral and deeper diverse substrates.
Also distributed in Persian Gulf, W India, Pakistan, Maldive area, Caylon, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China and south Japan (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
General distribution: from the Red Sea to the western Pacific (Philippines, North Australia, etc.) (Tortonese, 1980); WIO, Red Sea to W Pacific (Richmond, 1998); tropical, Indo-west Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-34 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]

Habitat: Known from the nearshore. [details]

Remark: Holotype whereabouts undetermined. Type locality: Red sea, see Lyman (1965) (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Type locality: Egypt, probably Koseir (Qoseir). Recorded from 'Coin Peros' by Bell (1909) - locality can't be traced.
