A new species of freshwater polyp collected from Zhaoqing City Guangdong Province was described, and was named as Hydra polymorphus sp. nov. The species was a hermaphroditic polyp. It was similar to Hydra carnea (Hyman, 1931a) and Hydra (Campbell, 1999), but many distinctions among them were still detected (Table 2). 1) The new species' Tentacle / body was 5.5-6.0, while Hydra carnea's was only 1.5-3.0, Hydra sp. was only 1/3-1/2; 2) the body length of Hydra polymarphus sp. nov. was 9 (8-14) mm, while the body length of Hydra sp. (Campbell, 1999) was 3-5mm; 3) the new species forme 1-7 unpapillang blunt cone-shaped testes and 1-6 eggs, while the Hydra carnea have a papillary shape. Holotype 20 (hermaphroditic), Zhaoqing City (23.2085 N, 112.5681 E), Guangdong Province, China, July 2007, collected by CHEN Zhong-Zhao. The type specimen is deposited in the laboratory of College of Life Sciences, Shenzhen University.
