Sardammina cherchiae n. gen. n. sp. from holocoenic sediments of the Sardinian and Campanian shelf is described. Diagnosis of Sardaminina n. gen.: test free, very small, more or less globular, monothalamic; test wall consisting of two layers. Inner layer calcareous with a porcelaneous aspect. Outer layer consisting of coarse grains of various nature, agglutinated with very scarce cement. Apertura single. rounded or sligthly oval, supported by a more or less marked neck, provided with pseudopores and wholly made by the inner layer of the test wall. Diagnosis of Sardaìnìnina cherchiae n. gen. n. sp.: test free, more or less globular, monothalarnic; test wall consisting of two layers. Inner layer calcareous with a porcelaneous aspect, very thin, locally discontinuous but well evident in the apertural zone. The outer layer is made of coarse grains, agglutinated with very scarce cement, not observable at the test surface. The grains have various nature, shape and size: debris, fragments of mineral and shells, fragments of skeletal debris and smail tests. Aperture single, rounded or sligthly oval, supported by a more or less pronounced neck, this is made by the inner layer of the wall only, is provided with pseudopores and, sometimes, hidden by the agglutinated grains. The biometric values are reported in Tab. I; where L indicates the length and W the width of the test; moreover in the columns minimum, average and maxirnum values and, between brackets the standard deviation ere given. Data on the ultrastructure of the test, on the associated fauna and on life habitat are supplied.
