The Tungtzeyen Formation (Middle Permian) is well developed and widespread in Fujian. This Formation consists of coal bearing strata mainly of clastic sediments. The biogenic limestone and clastic biogenic limestone among the coal bearing strata are rich in fusulinid ( Polydiexodina ) fauna and smaller foraminifers. The smaller Foraminiferal fauna described and illustrated in this paper is now first reported from the Middle Permian Tungtzeyen Formation in Ninyang Area of Wuping County, Fujian, which comprises 44 species (including 3 new species) of 14 genera belonging to the Hemigordiopsis Hemigordius Assemblage. The present assemblage is correlated well with the early Middle Permian Hemigordiopsis Postendothyra scabra Assemblage from the Maokou an Stage in south China (Lin Jiaxing, Li Jiaxiang and Sun quanying, 1990). By studying the samller foraminifers, this article furnishes the evidence for the age of the Tungtzeyen Formation and a brief discussion on the environmental characteristic of limestone bed in the Tungtzeyen formation of this region.
