Diagnosis Endocyclic or exocyclic Atelostomata with a disjunct apical system; protosternous, meridosternous or amphisternous plastron; and typically with phyllodes, but no floscelle. [details]
Status As defined by Mintz (1968: p. 1287), the order Disasteroida would include the genera Disaster L. Agassiz, 1836 and Acrolusia Lambert, 1920. A recent phylogenetic analysis by Barras (2007: p. 150) confirms the close relationship of the two taxa, but shows that they are stem-group members of the order Spatangoida and that the order Disasteroida is paraphyletic.
