Status: This group was originally named "Cidarides Latistellés" by Desor, 1858, p. xxix, xxxviii and refers to regular echinoids with compound plates ('diadematoids' + Echinacea). It excluded saleniids (which were refered to as "Cidarides salénies" in that work), rendering the group paraphyletic because of that exclusion. [details]
