Fossil E. galapagensis from the limestone of Isla Santa Cruz [California Academy of Sciences, Geology (CASG) 98241-2] and Isla Baltra (CASG 98243) in the Galapagos Archipelago are morphologically identical to extant members of this species, and based on the stratigraphy of Hickman & Lipps (1985), date from 2.58-1.8 Ma in the Galesian Stage of the Pleistocene.
