Nomenclature The genera Limacina Bosc, 1817 and Spiratella de Blainville, 1817 were both introduced in December 1817 and are based on the same type species. Over time the name Limacina was predominantly used by biologists, whereas paleontologists usually applied the name Spiratella. Precedence over Spiratella established by First Reviser action by Gray (1847, Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 15: 203). [details]
