Grammatical gender The gender of Aaptos is not clear. Aaptos is a Greek adjective meaning 'strong'. The ending suggests it is masculine (see ICZN art. 30.1.4.5), but Gray erected it for type species Aaptos adriatica, which has a female ending. This means that ICZN Art. 30.1.4.2. demands that the genus name is to be considered feminine. [details]
