Lindberg, K. (1951). Cyclopides (Crustacés Copépodes). Résultats Scientifiques de l'Exploration Hydrobiologique du Lac Tanganika 3(2):45-91, figs. 1-27, pl. 1, tabs., maps 1-2. - original description, as Eucyclops caparti. Material: 1 male from "Station 15" in open water in Lake Tanganyika. 3 females, 5 males plus a fragment & 1 copepodid from Station 60 near lakeshore.
Station 60 is off Kigoma in "Tanganyika Territory" - now Tanzania; Station 15 is at Tembwe in the "Congo Belge" = Zaire = Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lindberg didn't designate a type specimen; he did say that syntypes are deposited in the I.R.S.N.B. collections (and where is that?)

Kiefer, F. (1957). Ein seltener Cyclopide (Crust. Cop.) aus dem Tanganjikasee. Revue de Zoologie et de Botanique Africaines 56:4-8, figs.1-10.
1) described a specimen from Lake Tanganyika as "Eucyclops (Isocyclops) cf. caparti Lindberg"
2) discussed why he designated it as "cf."
3) proposed the subgenus Isocyclops for E. caparti and E. paucidenticulatus Lindberg, 1951, also from Lake Tanganyika.

Dussart & Defaye (1985) simply reprised this information. In their 2006 directory of Cyclopiformes (which I will send you when I get a suitable padded mailer) they simply repeated this information.

Apparently, nobody else had dealt with these 2 taxa since Kiefer. I needed to know what Kiefer said in detail, so I went ahead and translated his 1957 paper. Here it is for you. Basically he's scratching his head, implying subtly that caparti and paucidenticulatus might be synonymous, but more material is needed to check for any variation.

For now, the 2 taxa stand as valid. The subgenus is valid also.

Kiefer's "cf. caparti" does show some slight differences from Lindberg's description, and therefore I think it cannot be synonymized with Lindberg's taxon, for now. Whatever you do, maintain the "cf."

E. (I.) paucidenticulatus material: Station 33 - 2 females, 1 male, 1 copepodid. Station 33 is at Edith Bay in "Tanganyika Territory" - now Tanzania. [details]
