Taxonomic remark Wojciech Piasecki comment on A. ambloplitis:
For a long time, this species has been referred to as Achtheres ambloplitis Kellicott, 1880 because Kellicott (1880) provided the first illustrated description of this parasite. Unfortunately, in his paper, Kellicott used only a vernacular name (“The rock bass-sucker”) which makes it unavailable taxonomically. In the paper published two years later (Kellicott 1882) the scientific name “Achtheres Ambloplitis” was provided which makes this name available (as of 1882). Therefore, this species is accepted as Achtheres ambloplitis Kellicott, 1882. [details]

Additional information For many years this species has been considered valid as Achtheres ambloplitis Kellicott, 1880. Unfortunately, the publication of Kellicott (1880) contains only a vernacular name (“The rock bass-sucker” ) and as such is not available. In 1882 Kellicott published an additional paper providing the name "Achtheres Ambloplitis" which is available. Therefore this species is valid as Achtheres ambloplitis Kellicott, 1882 [Not 1880 as has been perpetuated by different authors for over a century] [details]
