Taxonomy New results by Brosseau et al. (2012) based on analysis of COI and 28 S sequences show that Stylocidaris is not closely related to Cidaris, but forms a clade of its own together with Acanthocidaris, Prionocidaris and Plococidaris. Therefore, these genera have been transferred to Mortensen's Stylocidarina here, which is now treated at subfamily level as Stylocidarinae. [details]
