Authority Authorship of Sabellides is not entirely straightforward. Milne Edwards in a note in Lamarck (1838), rather than Sars (1851 but 1850 in Sherborn), is mostly accepted as originating Sabellides (as Sabellide), (for example see Quatrefages, 1866). But see additional sources above for variations, while noting Hessle's apparent citation of Milne Edwards' 1838 independent publication (Recherches pour servir a l'histoire de la circulation du sang ches les annelides. Annales des Sciences Naturelles Paris (Series 2) 10: 193-221) appears to be in error.

Editor's comment Parapar et al (2012), followed by subsequent authors, have synonymised Sabellides into Ampharete. This is against date priority as Sabellides was in use prior to 1866. The reverse synonymy would be correct, but would be highly disruptive of taxonomic stability. The situation is under investigation by WoRMS editors [G. Read, November, 2015] [details]
