Taxonomy Blake (2017: 50,51) transferred Scoloplos cylindrifer to Leodamas as a new combination. He has no formal description or occurrence record, and did not examine specimens, but in a discussion on Leodamas he presents a long discussion on the taxonomic history and generic placement of S. cylindrifer Ehlers, a common and distinctive species (branched branchiae) in New Zealand and Australia. His diagnosis of Scoloplos versus Leodamas hinges on relatively minor differences. These are that in Scoloplos thoracic neurochaetae include blunt, inconspicuous uncini, few in number, not in distinct rows, abdominal neuropodia with embedded, non-projecting acicula. The transfer to Leodamas by Blake was rejected as premature by Zhadan (2020). [details]

Synonymy Leodamas cylindrifer, orginally Scoloplos, then formerly Haploscoplos, is a important species for defining Orbiniidae genera as its original name is type of the formerly widely used but now invalid genus Haploscoloplos. See notes for Haploscoloplos and see particularly Blake (2017) [details]

Taxonomy Blake (2017: 50,51) transferred Scoloplos cylindrifer to Leodamas as a new combination.
