Cardenas et al. 2012 reassigned Calthropellidae as a subfamily of the Geodiidae based on molecular sequence data. In the absence of clear morphological support for this reassignment we will await further confirmation of this and for the time being consider the subfamily Calthropellinae a temporary taxon (q.v.)
