Neotype Type material collected Botany Bay, Sydney was probably destroyed in a Chicago fire fide Pettibone (pers comm) in Rainer & Hutchings (1977:334). A neotype for N. longipes was designated Rainer & Hutchings as AM W5251, the Batemans Bay holotype of Nephtys vikingensis Paxton, 1974. Stimpson did not provide a figure but stated both antennae pairs were 'placed rather near the base of the head'. This is not the situation in N. vikingensis where (per Rainer & Hutchings, also Paxton) "Antennae arise at base of [the oval] preantennal lobe, palps arise further down the prostomium." The synonymy by Rainer & Hutchings, including a neotype using N. vikingensis, seems not as definite based on this character. [details]
