Etymology Not stated, but presumably the name of the genus Profundilycastis is composed by the Latin adjective profundus, meaning 'deep' or 'profound', followed by the name of the genus Lycastis Savigny, 1822 sensu Audouin & Milne-Edwards, 1833, later transferred to the genus Namalycastis Hartman, 1959, and in which the type species of the new genus, Namalycastis profundus Hartman, 1965, had been originally placed, and refers to the occurrence of the taxon in deep-water.  [details]
