New combination Baylis (1933) placed this species in Proleptus without comment on the rationale but probably because of the host and location within the host. [details]

Validity Diesing (1851) included this species as "Spiroptera rajae Bellingham" and listed Bellingham (1844) and Dujardin (1845) in the references. Diesing (1851) only provided measurements, which were taken from Dujardin (1845); Bellingham (1844) gave no morphological characters. The name is available but the species is not identifiable on the basis of the data provided by Diesing (1851). [details]
