Type material Type locality is “Dans les mers orageuses du cap Horn, en allant aux Malouines, à cent quarante lieues de ces îles” (translated as: In the stormy seas of Cape Horn, on the way to the Falklands, a hundred and forty leagues from these islands). A description of the animal in the water is given noting on the sides of the body a broad white band interrupted by a line of black below the dorsal fin.
