Type locality Otago Harbour, New Zealand, and Macquarie Harbour, Macquarie Island. Ashworth names the New Zealand specimens as Arenicola assimilis affinis. In a separate section on post-larval Arenicola from the Falkland Islands he includes the specimens in A. assimilis affinis, thus possibly adding the distant Falklands to the type localities. However, this section comes after he names the New Zealand specimens as var 'affinis' so it appears unnecessary to include Falkland Islands as contributing part of the types for var 'affinis' [details]
