Synonymy In spite of having priority, Perialla claparedei Kinberg, 1866 was synonymized with Polydora polybranchia Haswell, 1885 by Söderström (1920: 256-257). The species had been first described as new by Kinberg (1866) in a short diagnosis lacking figures, and again 44 years later with the same diagnosis, but this time being well illustrated (Kinberg, 1910: 63-64, pl. XXIV fig. 9). Söderström based his synonymy only on Kinberg's 1910 work, overlooking the earlier description of the species. This synonymy was later maintained by other authors, under different justifications (e.g.: Hartman, 1948, Blake, 1983). As a consequence of the synonymy the genus Perialla Kinberg, 1866 is now also considered as being a senior subjective synonym of Boccardia Carazzi, 1893, in spite of having priority.  [details]
