Notes
From editor or global species database
Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorEtymology "furcifera", fork bearer or fork-bearing [details]

Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorGrammatical gender Not stated, but Grube described for S. furcifera forked spines in the opercular funnel as well as the verticil, thus Latin furca ‘fork’, combined with adjectival suffix –fer -a -um ‘bear'. Lewis & Short (1891: 795) include ‘furcifera’ as a feminine noun meaning phallus, but it is unlikely this was Grube’s derivation. 'furcifer' is the masculine form. Furcillata would be a more obvious adjectival form.
