Type locality Saint Vaast, France. Although Hartman's catalogue indicates the type locality is Norway, Quatrefages specimens were from "St-Vaast" in France, perhaps St Vaast-la-Hougue, Normandy, 49.5843 N, 1.2638 W. The "norwegica" name is a reference to the similarity of Cirratulus borealis sensu Rathke. [details]

Spelling Subsequent authors consistently used "norvegica/us" instead of the incorrectly latinised norwegica of Quatrefages. Consequently ICZN Article 33.2.3 permits use by prevailing usage of "norvegica/us", although it is an unjustified emendation. [details]
