Spelling  Most Eurythoe alyconea usages will be as Eurythoe alyconia. Lamarck was first to publish the species as 'alyconea' but having copied a species name from the Savigny MS, finally published 1822 using the spelling 'alyconia'. Later Gravier (1902: 248) also slightly 'misspells' 'alcyonea' as 'alcyonia', taking the spelling from Savigny, but it is clear he is using a recombination in Eurythoe of Lamarck's original 'alcyonea' name published under Pleione. Savigny (1822) ultimately published the name as 'alcyonia'. It is not known if Lamarck or Savigny changed the spelling, but perhaps it was Lamarck, accidentally or otherwise. [details]
