Spelling Imajima (1985) treated Lumbrinerides as masculine, and 'ides' names are usually masculine, but because of the genus author usages it must be treated as feminine. Thus L. acutus japonicus should have been L. acuta japonica. [details]

Synonymy Miura (2017: 20) states that "Lumbrinerides acutus japonicus is therefore thought to represent a juvenile phase of L. shimodaensis, which was recorded from the same locality" but did not formally make the synonymy. Therefore it is taxon inquirendum here. [details]
