Taxonomy Known in catalogues as Leocrates cupreus iridis, rather than the correct L. cupreus. However, there is no such taxon as L. cupreus iridis. Leocrates cupreus (Grube, 1867) is a recombination of Lamprophaes cuprea Grube, 1867, as Grube realised his monotypic genus based on a worm from Samoa was the same as Kinberg's Leocrates. Grube refers to his original name as Lamprophaes cupreus, which is a mistake as he originally used the spelling 'cuprea', unless he was indicating Lamprophaes is masculine, and the mistake was in the original name. [details]
