Spelling  Ehlers (1874) first used 'brevibranchiata' and then (Ehlers, 1875 and 1877) he used 'brevibrachiata'. Although Ehlers himself doesn't make the connection he is describing the same 'Porcupine' voyage specimens as a new species in both 1874 and 1875. Strictly 'brevibranchiata' should be the spelling, but 'brevibrachiata' adopted from the full description of Ehlers has become the spelling mainly used, for example in Paxton (1986). The same 1874/1875 republication duplication occurred with his Diopatra socialis, but it is not a problem as that name does not vary in spelling, and unlike 'brevibrachiata' it became a synonym. [details]
