Calcutta, India, 10 April 1924), zoologist, entomologist, anthropologist, and herpetologist, who became director of the Indian Museum in Calcutta in 1907, started the Records and Memoirs of the Indian Museum journals and, in 1916, became the first director of the Zoological Survey of India.
