Taxonomy The name aspera has a confused history. Philippi's name has been used for what is presently considered to be S. vermicularis, but in part for S. concharum as well (e.g. Claparède 1870, Iroso 1921). The Recent S. aspera Philippi is a homonym of the fossil S. aspera Defrance, 1827, see Jäger (1983: 126) [details]
