Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet tentaculata is a Latin adjective meaning 'having tentacles or feelers', and refers presumably to what was thought to be a distinctive character of the species, the presence of only two tentacles (besides a palp) on each side of the prostomium. [details]

New combination From Hartmann-Schröder (1962: 159-160): "Aus Peru ich (Hartmann-Schröder 1960 a) eine verwandte Art irrtümlich als Pseudoampharete tentaculata beschrieben. Es handelt jedoch um eine Terebellidae, da die Tentakeln nicht eingezogen werden können, und zwar um eine neue Art der Gattung Polycirrus, die der oben beschriebenen P. multisetigerus sehr nahe steht. Sie weicht hauptsächlich in der Form der Borsten und der Haken von der oben beschriebenen Art ab. Sie muβ darum Polycirrus tentaculatus heiβen." [details]

Type locality Cancas, Peru, Pacific Ocean (gazetteer estimate -3.928°, -80.913°). [details]
