Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorDistribution Antarctic Ocean: South Shetland Islands, Robert Island, intertidal to 6 m deep, and Palmer Archipelago, Doumer Island, 3-30 m.  [details]

Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorEtymology The specific epithet antarctica refers to the fact that it was the fist species of Micronereis to be known from Antarctic waters.  [details]

Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorHabitat In Robert Island (South Shetland Islands), the species was collected from a rocky shore during low tide, in the lower intertidal fringe, amongst the alga Gigartina skottsbergii Setchell & Gardner, 1936. In Doumer Island (Palmer Archipelago), the species was collected from the intertidal down to 30 m deep in the subtidal seabed zone, reaching the highest densities between 12 and 20 m depth, which corresponds to a zone dominated by species of the red algal genera Iridaea, Plocamium, Ptilonia, and Callophyllis.  [details]

Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorReproduction A female 21 mm long, for 41 setigers, was collected with a mucous egg cocoon in the lower intertidal fringe of Robert Island attached by mucous to Gigartina skottsbergii. The mucous egg cocoon preserved in alcohol measured 3 mm in diameter and contained at least two layers of eggs, with the outer layer having 143 dark brown eggs, 261-360 µm in diameter. [details]
