Identification Comparing the location and specimen data of the original description of E. lanceolatus by Chang & Song (2002) with the data given in Sørensen et al. (2020), it seems that from the original material only the holotype EWNMH-60268 and the paratype NHMD-662031 of E. lanceolatus were identified with certainty as E. aureus. It remains open which of the remaining specimens of the original material of E. lanceolatus have been available for the study by Sørensen et al (2020), and these specimens may represent either E. aureus or E. songae. [details]

Synonymy Synonymy according to Neuhaus (2013):
E. aureus Adrianov et. al., 2002a: pp. 51-59, Figs 2-5, Tab. 1
Sørensen et al. 2012b: E. lanceolatus possibly synonym of E. aureus.

Synonymy according to Sørensen et al. (2020):
Echinoderes aureus Adrianov, Murakami & Shirayama, 2002: pp. 51–57, Figs 2–6, Tab. 1. Echinoderes lanceolatus Chang & Song, 2002: pp. 204–210, Figs 1–2. Syn. nov.
Echinoderes lanceolatus – Sørensen et al. 2012: pp. 162, 180, 183. – Neuhaus 2013: Tabs 2, 6. [details]
