Nomenclature Replacement name for Yoldia obtusa G.O. Sars, 1872, non Gould, 1861. This species was first mentioned under the name Yoldia abyssicola by M. Sars (1859: 86), as a «nomen nudum». Because it was preoccupied by Yoldia abyssicola Torell, 1859 (a different species), M. Sars changed the name of his species to obtusa and this name was validly published by his son G. O. Sars in 1872. The original name, Yoldia abyssicola M. Sars is given in the synonymy, but is a junior homonym.
Therefore van Aartsen & Giannuzzi-Savelli (1991) propose as replacement name Pseudomalletia pianii. According to Sanders & Allen (1985: 205), all records of Malletia obtusa outside the Norwegian Sea should be assigned to Malletia johnsoni Clarke, 1961, therefore the same applies to all records under the name Pseudomalletia pianii or Malletia pianii, which is an objective synonym of obtusa.  [details]
