Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorNomenclature Name sometimes credited to Cuvier (1810), Lamarck (1812) or Cuvier (1817), however in Cuvier's "Mémoire sur les Acères...", in Lamarck's "Extrait du cours de zoologie..." and in Cuvier's "Règne Animal", the name is vernacular "les Acères" intended for gastropods lacking cephalic tentacles; Cuvier distiguished Bulla carnosa as "les Acères proprement dites", but the first available latinization of the name in this sense seems to be Lamarck (1822) and there the genus is described formally, not introduced as an emendation of Akera Müller, 1776. Earlier, Rafinesque (1815: 142) mentioned "Acera Cuvier" but without a description nor a reference, therefore nomen nudum. The ICZN (Opinion 539) nevertheless placed "Acera Lamarck, 1812" and "Acera Rafinesque, 1815" on the Official Index of Rejected Names.  [details]
