Notes  As "serriale" is not a Latin word, the ending doesn't change; it is sometimes assumed to be the adjective "seriale". [details]

Remark: After having examined many specimens from different localities I couldn't make any difference between Maculotriton serriale and M. digitale + synonyms (Maculotriton bracteatus longus Pilsbry & Vanatta, 1904; Triton angulatus Reeve, 1844; Triton bracteatus Hinds, 1844; Triton digitale Reeve, 1844 and Eutriton digitalis seurati Couturier, 1907). However, I am sure more than one species is involved (not necessary M. digitale) but this cannot be confirmed with shell characters only ! [details]
