Description Length: 45 cm. Plumage: Blackish brown with very faint barring on tail and crest on head; throat with varying amounts of white and with a central dark line; narrow white stripe above and below eye. Immature browner than adult with more white below. Bare parts: iris bright yellow; bill head and bill slender, bill black, cere and gape bluish grey; feet and legs bluish white. Habitat: spends day in wooded areas but hunts at dusk over creeks, bays, harbours, estuaries, etc.; forest-edges inland. <388><391><393> [details]
