Description Length: 31-38 cm. Plumage: above grey; below throat and chest pale grey, belly barred black and white; long heavy tail black with white terminal spots on outer tail feathers, barred and spotted white; some females are reddish brown barred black above, whitish below with black bars. Immature variable but always with barred wings and tail. Bare parts: iris bright yellow; eyering/eyelid chrome yellow; bill blackish with olive yellow at base and orangish gape; feet and legs chrome yellow. Habitat: coastal areas and inland.
