Description Length: 44-47 cm. Plumage: above, including hood, brownish grey with narrow white collar over hind neck and white rump and tail; small white spots above and below eye; below throat and breast to belly brownish grey; belly, crissum and tail white; white training edges to wings; breeding dress similar but hood dark sooty grey. Immature like adult but without white collar and tail with black band. Bare parts: iris dark brown; bill yellow with black band behind tip, tip red; feet and legs greenish yellow. Habitat: coastal creeks, estuaries, beaches, off shore islands. Resident, breeds in northern Africa. <389><391><393> [details]
