According to Rowe & Gates (1995), there is some confusion between the identification of Salmacis virgulata, Salmacis sphaeroides (Linnaeus, 1758) and Temnopleurus alexandri (Bell, 1884), so Salmacis virgulata has been mistakenly recorded from Australia. [details]

Spelling sometimes incorrectly spelled "Salmacis virgulatus"; since Salmacis is of feminine gender and the specific name an adjective, however, this species must be spelled Salmacis virgulata [details]
